The word “cocky” is used to refer to a person who is extremely confident and self-assertive. A cocky person is extremely flamboyant and loquacious about his credentials. Some cocky people are over-confident about their accomplishments and achievements. But one should always remember that pride has a fall. Be confident about yourself and have faith in your abilities. But, this should not be to the extent that you become over-confident. Arrogance is not a good quality. There is a very thin line that separated confidence from over-confidence. “Cocky” or the utterly confident people are not liked by the society. Everyone appreciates modesty and modest people. Modesty is in fact the best policy. In the words of Vladimir Nabokov, “Discussion in class, which means letting twenty young blockheads and two cocky neurotics discuss something that neither their teacher nor they know.”
