Compassion is the feeling of kindness and generosity. Compassion can be towards the old, poor and deprived. Compassion is not a feeling which can be associated with each and every human being on earth. Compassion is the feeling which comes from within, a common trait of people who are down to earth and very much rooted. Compassion is when you feel for someone else who is downtrodden and helpless and seeks your help. Compassion only then drives you to go ahead and lend a helping hand to the needy.
Compassion was associated with many of ancient kings like Prince Harsha, Prince Ashoka etc. They were really benign and generous and people revered them like anything. William Cowper has rightly said, "Man may dismiss compassion from his heart, but God never will". God shows compassion towards all of us. We are nothing but his creation. God is omnipotent.
