The word writing can be dealt with in two ways. Simply jotting down things on any piece of paper or stationary is called writing. Writing is done as to take down things and make a note of them, so that they can be used at a later stage whenever needed. Writing is a form of communication only. Writing is written communication. Letters and e-mails form a part of this written communication. In the words of Mark Twain, “Substitute "damn" every time you're inclined to write "very"; your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be.” Writing when done for a particular purpose is different from simply jotting down things. We have different types of writing like technical writing which focuses on writing down some technical documentation, article writing which focuses on writing articles on numerous and varied topics, report writing etc. Purposeful writing requires thorough knowledge of the language in which you write.
