An impulse is a wish or desire to acquire anything, which happens very suddenly. Impulses are a normal part of the human thought process. Impulses only drive us into sudden and instinctive actions. Impulses can also be problematic since they are known to cause the obsessive-compulsive disorder. The ability to control impulses, rather the ability to control the desire to act upon them is an important factor when it comes to socialising and personality. False impulses and hasty decisions can lead to disaster and disappointment. In the words of Eric Hoffer, “Compassion is the antitoxin of the soul: where there is compassion even the most poisonous impulses remain relatively harmless.”
