Intolerance basically refers to lack of tolerance. When someone cannot tolerate conflicting or contrary opinions and beliefs, the person is said to be intolerant. People who lack patience and forbearance are also called intolerant. Intolerant members of the society indulge in bigotry too, when they oppose other religions and forms of worship. Charles Simmons had once remarked, “Bigotry and intolerance, silenced by argument, endeavours to silence by persecution, in old days by fire and sword, in modern days by the tongue.”
Anger and intolerance are the victims of correct understanding. Children are also intolerant when it comes to shams. In this context, Huxley had once remarked, “Children are remarkable for their intelligence and ardour, for their curiosity, their intolerance of shams, the clarity and ruthlessness of their vision.”
