Lies pertain to falsehood. A lie is also called a prevarication. It is a false statement made with a deliberate intention by someone who knows that it is not the truth. Someone tells a lie in disregard to the truth. One of the main objectives behind telling lies might be to mislead others. Lies are told with an intention to deceive others. A liar is a person who is lying, has lied previously on any occasion or is used to telling lies repeatedly.
Lies are a means of deception in the form of written or oral communication. Other forms of deception like forgeries and disguise are not considered as lies. Serious lies such defamation or perjury are deemed as punishable by the law. Vince Lombardi had once remarked, “I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfilment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.” Homer taught other poets to tell lies skilfully, according to Aristotle.
