Prophecy means a prediction or foretelling of the future. Prophecy involves having an insight into the future and it is a declaration of something to come or happen. Prophecy is made by fortune tellers, soothsayers and astrologers who use ways and means of acquiring information about what the future beholds for us. Prophetic powers are divine and inspirational. Common soothsayers and astrologers are never considered true prophets. Prophecy is the process which involves communication of messages to the true prophet, who further communicates these messages to others. Similarly, the true prophet has a divine means of communication with the message source. In the words of Walter Lippmann, “Ages when custom is unsettled are necessarily ages of prophecy. The moralist cannot teach what is revealed; he must reveal what can be taught. He has to seek insight rather than to preach.”
