Rights are the certain privileges or legal, social or ethical principles of freedom or entitlement. Rights are granted to all the members of a democratic country. The basic rights include the right to freedom of speech and expression, right to free movement etc. Fundamental rights are the rights that must be granted to a citizen so that they can lead a happy and blissful life. Rights and duties are the two sides of the one and the same coin. To enjoy rights, you must also perform some duties. Rights are considered fundamental to civilization, being regarded as the established pillars of society and culture. In the words of Thomas Jefferson, “Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual. All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression.”
