Self respect implies respect of one’s self, it is to have a high regard for one’s own character. Development of a high level of self respect involves a laudable self esteem.
In the present day context what matters more is not what others think of us but what we think of ourselves, to underestimate your own self respect is nothing but foolhardy. We should also be aware of the self respect of individuals around us and never try to berate their confidence by undermining their self respect, doing so is a sin. Self respect also very clearly implies that we must undertake to love and respect ourselves as though our very existence depends upon self- love or self- respect.
In the words of Dale turner, ‘It is the highest form of self-respect to admit our errors and mistakes and make amends for them. To make a mistake is only an error in judgment, but to adhere to it when it is discovered shows infirmity of character.”
