Senses provide the power and ability of perception to human beings. Neuroscience is the subject which deals with senses, their operation and classification. Human beings have several senses which help them to perceive things. The senses are sense of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. In the words of Blaise Pascal, “Faith certainly tells us what the senses do not, but not the contrary of what they see; it is above, not against them.” Animals also have senses and sense organs. But they do not have all the five traditional senses. Perception is possible through sense organs namely ear, nose, tongue, skin. In the words of Joseph Butler, “Both our senses and our passions are a supply to the imperfection of our nature; thus they show that we are such sort of creatures as to stand in need of those helps which higher orders of creatures do not.”
