Seriousness means an attitude of gravity, solemnity or earnestness towards something that you consider important. Seriousness about life’s aims and goals, responsibilities etc. is quite essential. If you don’t take certain things seriously, you will end up casually dismissing them and eventually ignore them. Seriousness is often contrasted with comedy. People are classified as serious or intense and cool or casual. The latter category of people are quite happy go lucky and take things casually. People who display extreme levels of seriousness become too grave and intense and people quite often don’t enjoy their serious company. They end up becoming too reserved and stay confined to themselves. In the words of Paul Simmons, “If you can get humour and seriousness at the same time, you've created a special little thing, and that's what I'm looking for, because if you get pompous, you lose everything.”
