Social Service is service of the mankind. People who indulge in working for the welfare of the needy and the poor are called social workers. Social service involves working for a social cause and general welfare. Altruists are people who work for the benefit of the mankind. In the words of Julian Bond, “Many are attracted to social service - the rewards are immediate, the gratification quick. But if we have social justice, we won't need social service.” Social work is most commonly linked with some charity work and aims to work for the upliftment of the backward sections of the society but should be understood or taken in a broader sense. According to G.B. Shaw, “Perhaps the greatest social service that can be rendered by anybody to the country and to mankind is to bring up a family.” He avers that the act of giving birth to children, raising them with morals and values is the best social service that a normal individual can indulge in.
