Inequality is a very general term that refers to lack of equality. Inequality can be on the social front when there is discrimination between people on the basis of their caste, creed and colour. Social inequality was practised in the form of racial discrimination in several parts of Africa. Economic inequality is another form of inequality which has led to a big divide between the rich and the poor. There is unequal distribution of wealth among the people in several nations, leading to economic disparity. James F. Cooper had once remarked, “All that a good government aims at... is to add no unnecessary and artificial aid to the force of its own unavoidable consequences, and to abstain from fortifying and accumulating social inequality as a means of increasing political inequalities.”
Inequality is a term for a mathematical expression involving greater than or lesser than sign. In the words of Thomas Carlyle, “A man willing to work, and unable to find work, is perhaps the saddest sight that fortune's inequality exhibits under this sun.”
