Television is a telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving messages that can be multicoloured or monochromatic. The word “television” basically refers to a television set. Television was invented by J.L. Baird. Television is basically rectangular box but this box is actually a great source of entertainment for all and sundry. Groucho Marx had once remarked, “I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.” Television has several channels that provide us entertainment as well as our daily dose of news and awareness. Several entertaining programmes on television are the source of respite for all those who don’t have other possible means of recreation or entertainment at home. In the words of T.S. Eliot, “Television is a medium of entertainment which permits millions of people to listen to the same joke at the same time, and yet remain lonesome.”
