Have you ever felt like if you message somebody you feel like you might bother them?

i want to message this guy, he goes to my school. (we barely talk but somewhat we're friends) i have him as a friend on facebook and his statuses are about him not wanting to be single anymore. i dont want to be single but i also dont want to sound 'thirsty'. I messaged him yesterday (a short conversation about how he is different outside of school and music we listen to)..... but it was SOOOOO hard to start a conversation because Im the type of person that doesn't want to bother someone, ESPECIALLY someone that i have a little crush on.
