Where did script-writer Joseph McBride get his quotes in his book "Writing In Pictures" of Irving Thalberg and can they be quoted without copyright infringement?

Screenwriter Joseph McBride in his excellent 2012 Vintage Books/Random House, book "Writing n pictures" lists in his bibliography a book about Irving Thalberg by Mark A. Viera, "Irving Thalberg: Boy Wonder to Producer Prince" (U of CA Press 2010) My question: May Thalberg's words (quoted below) be reprinted in my new book relating to the film industry (if the words below are indeed in Viera's book) without copyright infringement, or do I need to seek premissions, a release, or whatever! Thalberg is quoted as having said, regarding writers ("whom he exploited", according to Pauline Kael a quote somewhere else) "If it isn't for the writing, we've got nothing". "Thalberg is also reported to have said (according to McBride, in his book, cited above,), "Writers are the most important people in Hollywood. And we must never let them know it." Can you find those quotes for me in Viera's book, please? Thanks very much! *emphasized text**emphasized text*

I am not too sure where he got the quotes but as long as you give credit to the source of where you got the quotes or ask if you can use them then I do not think you will have copyright infringement problems.
