Guilt is when you feel or realize that you are at fault. This realization can be timely or can even come a bit late. Guilt makes you realize that you have done something wrong and you have to redeem that fault. You even try to make or compensate for your folly because it is not that easy to live peacefully with a guilty feeling troubling your mind. Guilt is experienced after committing any serious crime or offence.
Guilt takes away your peace of mind and forces you to address your mistake and make the necessary compensation to put things right. Fear is the tax that the conscience pays to guilt. Food, love, career and mothers are the four major guilt groups. Drew Carrey had once remarked, “Hollywood people are filled with guilt: white guilt, liberal guilt, money guilt. They feel bad that they're so rich, they feel they don't work that much for all that money - and they don't, for the amount of money they make.”
