IRA disarmament refers to disarmament of the Irish Republican Army. The IRA had completed the biggest ever act of decommissioning than ever before. As per the International Disarmament Chief, he was witness to a third act in which provisions had put the weapons beyond use. Automatic guns, ammunition, explosives and explosive material had all been taken out of circulation. The arms that were rendered unusable could have had catastrophic repercussions and would have resulted in huge loss of life and property. It was the third disarmament act by the “Provisionals” since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in April 1998. This act was aimed at establishing the process of spreading peace once again in Northern Ireland. Peter Hain had once remarked, “The big missing part of the jig-saw is to get the assembly back up and running here in Northern Ireland, to get shared government back in business, that is my objective, and we await the IRA statement to see if this will trigger a new dawn.”
