Information means a sequence of symbols that record or transmit a message. It can be propagated through the medium of signs or waves. Information is any kind of event that affects the state of a dynamic system. It is closely related with another term called “entropy” which represents the information content of a message. The higher the information content of the message, lesser is its entropy and vice-versa.
In general terms, information means to inform or generate awareness about something. Information and knowledge is not the one and the same thing. Ronald Reagan had once remarked, “Information is the oxygen of the modern age. It seeps through the walls topped by barbed wire; it wafts across the electrified borders.” Information Technology has seen a boom in the past decade and is one information sector which is progressing rapidly.
