Liberals are people who believe in staying free and enjoying equal rights. Liberals emerged in the age of enlightenment when they opposed all the assumptions on which the previous governments were based like absolute monarchy, laissez fair and the divine rule of the king. Liberals believe in the importance of a liberal democracy, free and fair elections, freedom of religion, capitalism etc. John Locke was the first liberal thinker who made liberalism a philosophical tradition worldwide. Liberals are entirely opposite in their beliefs as compared to the conservatives who are orthodox in their mindset.
Stockwell Day had once remarked, “If the Liberals' law is passed, will sex education in the schools, including elementary grades, include the same portrayals of sexual activity which presently exist in heterosexual instruction? Will there be the same presentation of homosexual activity? Of course there will.” In contrast to liberalism, Conservatism is a hard choice for a society that has become accustomed to big government and big entitlements promoted by liberals.
