It is the art of managing and organising, successful planning and securing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives. Project management is many times confused with program management. A project is a temporary undertaking which has some underlying objectives and aims, usually to bring about beneficial change or added value.
Project management is to achieve all project goals and objectives while keeping in mind all the project constraints and limitations. The major constraints are scope, time and budget. The secondary and more ambitious challenge is to optimize the allocation and integration of inputs necessary to meet the predefined objectives.
In the words of Kevin Rollins, “Our goal is to leverage what is already out in the field in terms of partners, but then hire in project management capability and a bit of technical capability.”
