Repentance is a change of thought to correct wrong and gain forgiveness from someone who is wronged. Repentance is accompanied with confession of guilt and a firm resolve so as not to repeat the offence again. Repentance is basically felt after committing something that is ethically and morally wrong. The word repentance is derived from the Greek word “Metanoia” which means “after/behind one’s mind”.
In the words of Gilbert Parker, “There is no refuge from memory and remorse in this world. The spirits of our foolish deeds haunt us, with or without repentance.” It has been said by our ancestors that it is better to prepare and prevent first, rather than to repair and repent later. Edwin Louis Cole had once remarked, “The living pattern of the prodigal is: rebellion, ruin, repentance, reconciliation, restoration.”
