Shell game also known as thimblerig is actually a gambling game played with three shells and a pea. Shell game requires three shells which might be thimbles, walnut shells, matchbox caps, plastic caps etc will do and a round ball, small in size to resemble a pea. The shell game is played on a flat surface such as mat lying on the ground or the card board. The shell game dates back to Ancient Greece. In reality, when the wager for some amount of money is made, it is a confidence trick used to perpetuate fraud. In confidence trick slang, swindle is considered as a short con because it can be easily executed and pulled off. In the words of Elliot Richardson, “There is an increasingly pervasive sense not only of failure, but of futility. The legislative process has become a cruel shell game and the service system has become a bureaucratic maze, inefficient, incomprehensible, and inaccessible.”
