Diva is a term used for a popular and celebrated female singer. Divas are women of substance who are extremely talented in the world of opera i.e. the world of theatre, cinema and music. The term “diva” has meanings similar to the word prima Donna which is a Spanish term used to describe a leading female singer in an opera. According to Jenifer Lewis, “But a true diva has dismissed that drama. A true diva's heart is open, and she's ready to play by her own rules - rules that are gentle and kind.” The word “diva” means a goddess which is the female version of the word “divus” which means a male deity. The word entered the English dictionary in the 19th century. The word is related to the Hindu term for goddess which is “Devi”. Divas are classy women who are extremely gifted with excellence in some or the other art form because of which they can grab the attention of many. According to Calista Flock hart, “Actually, I take it as a compliment. Diva is a derivative of divine. That's quite a title to carry around.”
