Longing is a term used to describe a strong desire that you want to be fulfilled or realized. The term longing is synonymous with the word “craving”. Any strong desire that has been persisting for long and has not been realised due to a plethora of reasons, becomes a longing. When you long for something, you want it to be realised double quick. Generally, wishes or desires which cannot be realised are things that we long for. In the words of John Crosby, “Free' is more of that 'familiarity breeds contempt' kind of thing. It's about saying 'Wait, I'm longing for something more than I have and I don't know what it is that I want, but I know I want it.' It has nothing to do with what I'm going through, personally.”
If you long for something, just work towards it. Give all your heart and soul in realising your vision and achieving all that you long for. Perseverance is the key. You can get all that you want if you give in your sincere and honest efforts. In the words of David Brainerd, “Ardent love or desire introduced, as passionately longing to please and glorify the Divine Being, to be in every respect conformed to him, and in that way to enjoy him.”
