When once the itch of literature comes over a man, nothing can cure it but the scratching of a pen. But if you have not a pen, I suppose you must scratch any way you can.

March on. Do not tarry. To go forward is to move toward perfection. March on, and fear not the thorns, or the sharp stones on life's path.

My two fingers on a typewriter have never connected with my brain. My hand on a pen does. A fountain pen, of course. Ball-point pens are only good for filling out forms on a plane.

I'm foldin' ya'll, probably headin' for the pin/pen like bowlin' balls kept it corrected at the pen/pin and wrote, rolled it for ya'll.

In bygone days, commanders were taught that when in doubt, they should march their troops towards the sound of gunfire. I intend to march my troops towards the sound of gunfire.

The painter puts brush to canvas and the poet puts pen to paper. The poet has the easier task, for his pen does not alter his rhyme.

Artists quotes
When a child is learning to write, it is extremely easy for it to hold the pen wrongly, and to form its letters incorrectly, but it is painfully difficult to hold the pen and to write properly; and this because of the child's ignorance of the art of writing, which can only be dispelled by persistent effort and practice, until at last, it becomes natural and easy to hold the pen properly, and to write correctly, and difficult, as well as altogether unnecessary, to do the wrong thing. It is the same in the vital things of mind and life.

I like to write paper mail...nobody does that anymore...with my pen pals. John Doe from the band X played my dad on One Tree Hill, and he just collects post cards from all the places he's toured and doesn't write a whole lot. He's not into that, but he's a good pen pal. Still, you write things out when you actually write a letter. When you right an e-mail, it's all smiley faces and LOLs and shit.

In 1965, the attempted march from Selma to Montgomery on March 7th was planned to dramatize to the state of Alabama and to the nation that people of color wanted to register to vote. In Selma, you could only attempt to register to vote on the first and third Mondays of each month. You had to go down to the courthouse and get a copy of the so-called literacy test and attempt to pass the test. And people stood in line day in and day out failing to get a copy of the test or failing to pass the test.
