I do love music and I did actually have my own band once. It was a rap band. I was eight and we were called Caution. It was my two friends, they called me and said, Were in a band called Caution. And I was like, Can I be in it? So they made me audition! I had to sing down the phone even though we were a rap group. But they let me be in it. I really thought it was a big deal.

I don't like rap music at all. I don't think it's music. It's just a beat and rapping.

They read their sports pages, know their statistics and either root like hell or boo our butts off. I love it. Give me vocal fans, pro or con, over the tourist types who show up in Houston or Montreal and just sit there.

Gangsta rap often reaches higher than its ugliest, lowest common denominator, misogyny, violence, materialism and s..ual transgression are not its exclusive domain. At its best, this music draws attention to complex dimensions of ghetto life ignored by most Americans. Indeed, gangsta rap's in-your-face style may do more to force America to confront crucial social problems than a million sermons or political speeches.

Long before I had any business of being picky or discerning, I was. I remember I was 18 in Los Angeles, doing a TV show called 'Undeclared' and I was getting scripts, you know, for things to audition...and I turned down auditions for 98 per cent of them...From the very beginning I was like, 'No, I'm living in Montreal and I'm just not going to do movies that depress me.'

There are rumors that Bank of Montreal may be broken up and sold. It sounds like it may be a consortium of people. You wouldn't be surprised that the Royal Bank bought their banking operation and their brokerage arm might go to a foreign entity. That's the rumor.

I grew up listening to everything outside hip-hop. Hip-hop came later in my life. I grew up listening to Black Uhuru, Bob Marley, Tracy Chapman, the names just keep going. From Creed to Hootie and the Blowfish to 3 Doors Down to Guns and Roses, you name it. When you look at my closet of music youre gonna find a little something of everything. You barely might find any rap. Only rap CD you might find is Fugees, 2Pac and Biggie.

I just try to do things that I would like to see,to do stuff I would enjoy doing. Is it going to be a worthwhile way to spend my time? Am I going to enjoy showing up for work every day for four months or whatever? My family is taken care of. The rent's paid. I can buy cat food, and I still have money to have a nice TV and I get to live at home in Montreal. I've got no complaints.

I felt (a) it was a great role and (b) I wanted to stay in town. I wanted to stop going to these four month and five month gigs up in Toronto or Montreal or Vancouver or down in Mexico. I wanted to be around my son, Max. This came along and I was like, I really want to play this guy!

And some places you been before are so great that you don't ever mind going back. Some places you been before you don't ever want to go back, you know, like Montreal in the Winter.

Well, basically I started when I was 12 years old in Montreal doing different Canadian children shows, which amounts to basically relative obscurity in terms of an American resume. And then when I was 17 I got cast in the movie Almost Famous and I did two scenes in that and then I went back home and basically had the worst year of acting in my career, where I did two Chevrolet commercials in 12 months.
