Is it possible to justify a murder?
I am thinking self-defense can justify a murder, but murder is still murder and in some instances second degree murder can be given to the victim. So, hmm..

3rd or 4th degree! mental state rather than intent.

It may be a question of semantics here. but I have always equated the word murder with a preplanned purposeful taking of a human life for any myriad of arcane motivations. On the other hand there is the word homicide. Taking a human life during an act of self defense of yourself or others unable to defend themselves. Also as the result of an accident or happenstance, entirely unplanned. Homicide in these terms carries with a mantle of acceptability, murder can never nor will ever be acceptable.
