I've had several in my life. In High School there were two teachers who really paved the way for me and encouraged me to stick with theater. Their names were David Green and Ralph Opacic. As of late, I've been fortunate enough to have mentors in the shows I've done. Dick Latessa, from Hairspray, was and is still a great mentor to me. And while working on the film Once Upon a Mattress, Denis O'Hare was there to offer invaluable advice to me. I think the greatest thing about these mentors is that they wouldn't call themselves mentors. They are just amazing human beings who don't even know that they are inspiring people all around them. I feel lucky to have been in their presence.
I look around me at all the girls who are always talking about how hot this guy or that guy is, and then I look at you. No one's whispering or giggling about you. You're not the hottest guy in school, but I fell in love with you anyway. I fell in love with you because of your laugh, and your smile, and your voice, and the way you walk and sit and stand, and the way I feel when I'm around you, and because you're my best friend. The fact that your pretty good looking helps, but I fell in love with the person you are. I can't tell you this, cause it might ruin our friendship, but you'll always be the hottest guy in the world to me.

Education is not all the lessons we learn from, in our life. We all are witness to our own life, and we gain knowledge from our mistakes and that gives us wisdom. We can all speak about our own lessons we learn from living our own life, and that they don't teach in school!

Stan: (Picks up telephone) This is Stan Smith. Principal Lewis: Mr. Smith, I'm afraid there's a problem with your son. Stan: Oh, God, he's gay. This is it. This is the gay call. I've been ready for this for years. (Starts chugging down pills) Principal Lewis: Uhh, no. It's just that he's gone mad with power. He evacuated the entire school and barricaded himself in my office. Stan: I see. (Foam starts coming out of his mouth) Henry, antidote!
I've come to believe that genius is an exceedingly common human quality, probably natural to most of us... I began to wonder, reluctantly, whether it was possible that being in school itself was what was dumbing them down. Was it possible I had been hired not to enlarge children's power, but to diminish it? That seemed crazy on the face of it, but slowly I began to realize that the bells and the confinement, the crazy sequences, the age-segregation, the lack of privacy, the constant surveillance, and all the rest of national curriculum of schooling were designed exactly as if someone had set out to prevent children from learning how to think and act, to coax them into addiction and dependent behavior.
John Taylor Gatto
Parents taught me how to behave, school taught me what to do for a living. The work helped me earn a living. But only God gave me a reason to live. So to God be all the glory.
This is what you shall do: love the earth and sun, and animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence towards the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown, or to any man or number of men; go freely with the powerful uneducated persons, and with the young, and mothers, of families: read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life: re-examine all you have been told at school or church, or in any books, and dismiss whatever insults your soul.
I've been making a list of the things they don't teach you at school. They don't teach you how to love somebody. They don't teach you how to be famous. They don't teach you how to be rich or how to be poor. They don't teach you how to walk away from someone you don't love any longer. They don't teach you how to know what's going on in someone else's mind. They don't teach you what to say to someone who's dying. They don't teach you anything worth knowing.
I grew up with nothing and nobody ever told me I could do anything. I never knew my father, and my mother wasnt the best, most stable person. My grandparents raised me, and my grandmother never really connected with me. I just had a home. So I was kind of left to my own self. When I found out that nobody had ever graduated from high school in our family, I wanted to be the first one to graduate. By the time I was 11, I wanted to be a comedian. So all those years later, Ive managed to achieve my dream as a kid, and it wasnt easy. Im on the Walk of Fame and Im one of the 25 most influential Hispanics in America, according to Time Magazine. I think my duty is to go back and tell kids, Whatever color you are, wherever you come from, anything and everything is possible. And Im living proof.
Look at you. You're young. And you're scared. Why are you so scared? Stop being paralyzed. Stop swallowing your words. Stop caring what other people think. Wear what you want. Say what you want. Listen to the music you want to listen to. Play it as loud as you want and dance to it. Go out for a drive at midnight and forget you have school the next day. Stop waiting for Friday. Live now. Do it now. Take risks. Tell secrets. This life is yours. When are you going to realize that you can do whatever you want?

My schedule on 'True Blood' has kept me from the big action movies. There's been serious interest in me for big action pictures, and we can't fit them into my hiatus from the series. I have a contract. I can't walk away from it. And I wouldn't want to. But for a kid who grew up loving action pictures and comic books, that move seems like a no-brainer. Since graduating from a classical theater school, I've consciously tried to turn myself into the kind of adult actor who would make the sort of comic book superhero that I would have wanted to see when I was a kid. I hope that happens, someday. It's just a matter of when it comes up and what it is.
I was never on a mission to be an NFL quarterback. I wanted to be a good high school player, and I worked hard at that. That made me good enough to play in college and then I wanted to be a good college quarterback. During college I played well enough to make it into the NFL. I never took it for granted and really wanted to play hard at each level and I have always had a lot of fun doing what I wanted to do.
Steve: This is it. I have absolute power. (Over intercom) Doris, could you please send in our high school mascot? (Man dressed in a buffalo costume comes in) Welcome, buffalo. As you must've heard, I have been elected student body President. As such, I can do anything I want... and I want to ride the buffalo! (Steve jumps on mascot's back) Woo hoo hoo!! Buffalo: MOOOO!!!! (Destroys everything in the office) Steve: Yes, yes! I'm riding the buffalo! (Buffalo falls, Steve gets off, Doris comes in) Now, send in the lunch lady.
I started dancing when I was young, and I was a dancer my whole life until I got to high school and got into cheerleading. When I was dancing I would dance three times a week and compete on the weekends, and all I did was dance. I would tell my parents that I didn't want to dance and wanted to play other sports like soccer. My mom always said "No, you're going to break your legs, you have to keep dancing." I always complained about it, and now my mom is like, 'Oh, so now see where dancing has gotten you.' I also won a dance competition to become a Nitro Girl for WCW. And now who knows what will happen because I'll be in a dance competition on national television. So, I have to thank my parents for pushing me into dancing when I was growing up. I'm not only going to do this for myself, but I want to do this for every WWE fan out there.
I moved to L.A. and did a couple of pilots and a couple of series, and I was frustrated at the time, because it's a very frustrating business, especially for women. I hit a wall, and said I'm tired of auditioning for the bimbos and young, naďve girls. I went back to school for environmental and interior design and told my agent I was just not interested in anything unless it was brilliant or showed women as intelligent. One day my manager called and said there's this great script you should read. My first reaction was, 'Ugh, lesbians for cable? It's going to be the 'Red Shoe Diaries'; I'm not interested!' She said, 'Just read it, it's different.' And she was right, that was the only project I auditioned for that whole summer and my life changed.
Megan and I so despise the paparazzi. We value our private life and our time at home. The last thing I want is to be ducking in and out of places because Im worried about my picture being taken, especially when Im with my son. When they follow me in cars when I pick him up from school, thats really crossing the line. I understand that they want shots of me with Megan, but were pretty boring. They wont catch us out at clubs, getting drunk or being hauled in for DUIs. All they usually get is pictures of us leaving Staples or Target, or walking into a restaurant. But when they start taking shots of me taking out my garbage in the morning, I mean, whats that about? To my mind, the law needs to be changed to help create a safer environment for actors and celebrities.

The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. WredeBook I. Dealing with DragonsBook II. Searching for DragonsBook III. Calling on DragonsBook IV. Talking to DragonsCimorene is not your oanidrry princess. She hates embroidery, etiquette and dancing lessons. She'd rather learn magic and how to run a kingdom. Rather than being forced to marry a vapid prince, Cimorene runs away to work for a dragon.Lots of dragons have princesses sometimes kings and queens arrange for a dragon to kidnap their daughter so that a brave prince will rescue and marry her. Cimorene isn't into that, she works for the dragon Kazul and when princes try to rescue her she sends them away. Quickly Cimorene becomes indispensable to the dragons, thwarting an evil plot by wizards along with a fantastic cast of characters: Morwen, a not-your-oanidrry-witch; a prince turned to stone; Alienora, a less-silly-than-usual-princess, not to mention a host of dragons. In the later books, Cimorene assists the now-King Kazul ( King is the title of the job whether held by a male or female dragon), collaborates with the newly throned King Mendanbar of the Enchanted Forest, a fire-wizard, a giant rabbit named Killer enchanted as a floating, winged, blue donkey, in a never-ending battle with the wizards. In the last book, Cimorene's son Daystar, not realizing his heritage, enters a quest to rescue King Mendanbar from a spell. These books are among my life-long favorites. While listed as Young Adult, younger readers will also find much to enjoy in the witty writing, exciting plots, and strong, unorthodox characters.
I'll speak for her. We just heard Principal Turner read a list of Erica's accomplishments. I could try to do that for Brooke, but it would be kind of a short speech... As you know, Brooke's probably one of the most popular people in school. Something I'm definitely not... and yet, she's my friend. She never cared what clique I was part of, the kinds of clothes I wore or... the fact that I have to ride the bus... She looked past that stuff. And when you think about it, isn't that what we want in our president; someone who can see past the superficial differences and bring us together? This year, Brooke's had her share of ups and downs... just like all of us. But most of you never saw it, 'cuz even when life got hard, Brooke never let it in. She was just...Brooke; tough, smart, one of a kind... And I don't know about you but those are things that I look for in a leader. Brooke Davis is my friend. But that's not why I'm voting for her. I'm voting for her because of her heart... and her sp
In high school, there are so many cliques. You're never safe. In between my junior and senior years, I went away to film Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and I came back ready to do the things with my friends that we always did, but things change. People get older, and there are some inside jokes that you don't know about that have happened. You feel lost for a while, and it's hard to come back from that. Then the friends who have 'replaced' you are territorial. I've experienced that a little bit. There are catty, insecure, and gossipy girls everywhere, but for me, I don't think it's a matter of any of them being genuinely bad at heart. I just think that maybe the different ways in which people are raised make them different and insecure. They point out the bad things in others just to make themselves feel better. It's everywhere.
Hey. I'm a girl. I'll make a big deal out of small things. I'll get jealous easily. I'll cry if I get a broke heart or if my feelings are hurt. I'll have multiple loves and multiple crushes and I know I'll have many heartbreaks. I'll complain to the people I care about. I'll be gossiped about. I'll gossip about others. I might not make the best choices. I'll get mad, happy, and sad easily. I might spend too much time on something. I might give someone to much time, when they don't deserve it. I'll have more guy friends than girls, maybe. My makeup will have to be pretty close to perfect for me to go to school or out in public. I am wanting to impress somebody specific each day. but hey. I'm a girl...that's kinda my job.
