Wit indicates the faculty or the power of mind to think and understand. A witty person has an intelligent and inquisitive mind which is always interested to learn new things. Witty people are intellectual beings who also possess a great sense of humor and continuously come up with amusing and humorous sayings. In the words of William Shakespeare, “Brevity is the soul of wit.” Wit is a rare quality in human beings. Very few people are witty in this world. Anyone who is witty talks like an intellectual and casts an impression on the mind of any person with whom he strikes a conversation with. A witty person also has the knack of associating any two objects that are not even related, in order to surprise anyone. According to Mary Astell, “Although it has been said by men of more wit than wisdom, and perhaps more malice than either, that women are naturally incapable of acting prudently, or that they are necessarily determined to folly, I must by no means grant it.”
