Work life balance is a concept that emphasizes maintaining equilibrium between our professional work and other work or choices that we have made in our personal lives. The choices can include ways to engage ourselves in various activities, such as spending time with family, engaging in sports and games, or exercising, which help us de-stress from our routine, tiring activities.
Work life balance can be considered an expansion of the saying “Work while you work, play while you play.” We all have only 24 hours in a day. When an individual can anticipate longer working hours, he or she needs to prioritize among the various tasks in hand. Other less important tasks can be moved to the next day. Similarly, if work requires more time, the less important personal activities can be moved to another time slot. Such planning ensures an organized way to complete the work and adequate time allocation for other work or activities.
