I think every athlete has their window of opportunity, and you just have to jump on it. You never know when it can end. So I'm just trying to live large while I have the opportunity.

I think the concept of seeking fame and fortune in women's football in the States is a bit idyllic. Look at all the teams in America that have folded, and the leagues.

My father was never around. But I glorified my father, and I was always daddy's little girl. He was my first soccer coach.

I don't just want to focus on soccer, soccer, soccer. You're going to look back 20 years from now and of course you're going to remember the games. But I'm going to remember seeing my family in the stands.

My entire purpose is trying to be the best in the game, and if that exudes beauty too, that's pretty powerful.

The women's game has fought for years and in all honesty it's just the reality of women's professional sport. That's the world we live in, it's an uphill battle but it is growing and getting better and we have to fight the battles as they come. If we hadn't fought all the battles we have over the last decade then we wouldn't be able to make a living as we all can now.

Its kind of frustrating. I play with Eniola Aluko, an English player, and we were talking just the other day about how sad it is that England really doesnt have a womens league because they have some incredible players, some of the best players in the world. And they dont have a womens league! Germany, Japan, has a womens league. WPS is what American players have talked about for years and fortunately we have great support for soccer, we can make this our livelihood, and we can put every ounce of time and money and passion into our sport, which is also our job.

It was a difficult decision to move back to the States but I wanted to do my bit to really help promote the game and grow the sport in America. It was never the same, though. I never felt the same passion for the game in the States and there were a lot of headaches, a lot of obstacles to overcome - it didn't just run itself for the love of the game because soccer is not the No. 1 sport as it is in Europe. It was tough and though I tried to do the right thing, looking at things now with the league suspended and many of the teams I have played in folded, I wish I remained in Europe.

It goes to show that every federation seems to be growing and putting more money into the women's game, and are developing players from a younger age who are more soccer-savvy than the American players. We are still athletic but the game is beautiful and that is the style we need to build in order to keep winning: we have a long way to go.

Ts unfortunate that in England we heard that players werent getting paid for taking time off and going to the World Cup. They have to take a lot of time off and I dont know if its five, six weeks they spent over there, but was it worth it in the long run, losing money if they have jobs back home? I dont see how thats supportive, in terms of the Federation, in wanting them to train harder in an effort to win that World Cup.

I think there has been progress in terms of a growth of people's knowledge of the game and a feeling that the women's game is here to stay. But in reality what are needed is more sponsors and investors with deeper pockets, with a good business plan. I think the people behind the WPS might have delved in a little too quickly without realising quite how much it would cost to run and with perhaps not the best business plan. But the World Cup definitely helped the game and increased the awareness of lots of people.

I think there are opportunities with doubleheaders. Their fan base is more or less the same soccer fan base that were all trying to market to. I think the womens game gets more family coming together and young girls, but overall we all want that soccer market and I think if we have doubleheaders many of the audience would stay.

I played in Europe and it was a great experience, not just because of my team-mates and the coaches we had, but from the fans and the city itself, I played in Gothenburg and I played in Lyon and soccer was everywhere, At that time in my life, it really jump-started my career and really helped me find myself as a person and player.

Now that Seattle has a team in my hometown, Im all behind Seattle Sounders as far as catching every single game and very much enjoying it. Im glad MLS is expanding and will have three teams in the northwest now. I never had a favorite team until this year with Seattle
