Indigestion refers to feeling of fullness during a meal or after a meal or the burning or pain in the upper abdomen. Indigestion is basically a result of abnormal contracting and relaxing action of the stomach muscle as it receives, digests and moves food into the small intestine. Etty Hillesum had once remarked, “Greed probably figures in my intellectual life as well, as I attempt to absorb a massive amount of information with consequent mental indigestion.”
To deal with indigestion, you should take several, small low-fat meals throughout the day at a slow pace. Abstain from coffee, carbonated beverages and alcohol. You need to take enough rest and practise some sort of relaxation therapies or meditation like yoga to decrease physical and emotional stress. In the words of Jean Anthelma Brillat Savarin, “Those persons who suffer from indigestion, or who become drunk, are utterly ignorant of the true principles of eating and drinking.”
