Well, I've grown up in such a family. My father and I haven't been the best of friends for a long time. He used to tell me a lot of unkind words and they really affected my self esteem throughout my teens.
But as I grew up, I realized that nobody else can define me better than myself. Our parents can say whatever they think we are, whether good or bad, but only we have the power to tell the nature of our hearts and define our spirits.
Just be yourself. That is beauty.
