Is it necessary if he is older than me by about 14 years?

Age is more an issue the younger you are. If you're 16 and he's 30, I'd be asking why he likes girls so young (and I've seen them divorce when the girl gets older, and he finds another young one.). But as long as it's not like that, and you enjoy the same lifestyle, and have things in common, can communicate well - age is no big thing.
