It sounds like he has low self-esteem or he's staying together for the kids. Its the genetic male thing to do. He's owning up to his mistake. Until it's understandable for the kids why the relationship is no longer healthy, and why it would be better for the family unit to disengage, he is sticking this one out. That in essence is so refreshing, it has made my morning, as hope for humanity. He sounds heartfelt and patient, maybe he'll come to you or find someone who deserves his care soon.
