Epitaph is an inscription on a tombstone or a monument commemorating a buried person. Epitaph is basically an expression of the love or affection or respect we have for the deceased person. This when inscribed on the stone, stands for a long time. On the other hand, epigram is a witty form of expression which is either in the written form or spoken form. It is often a paradoxical remark or saying.
Mark Twain and Shakespeare are two famous personalities who are known for their sayings or epigrams. The punch at the end of their saying are often remembered for a long time. One such epitaph given by an unknown person is also thought provoking. And I quote;
Remember friend as you walk by
As you are now so once was I
As I am now you will surely be
Prepare thyself to follow me
