We all kind of grew up together with Art Blakey because we all were young and he gave us a chance to write. We had to write something that was good and to sit up with a great guy like Art Blakey and watch him.

Well, my sister played trumpet. Can you imagine having a sister blowing the trumpet around the house, Fred? And my brother, he played piano. Everybody was playing some kind of music, so it was natural for me to get into it.

When I moved out here and people saw my name... I had a shaved head, dark skin, and a tattoo...You would be shocked at the stuff they offered me. I was the gangbanger and the drug dealer and the thug. And that's all a Spanish or a black guy could get in this business. I decided I would not read for a role unless the character's name was Ryan or Bryan or Chad. And I think I got two Ryans in my career, which is pretty good.

I was in Tokyo for my birthday this year and it was kind of sad because Freddie was working. And it was just a small group of us, and we all decided to sort of rent out this tattoo parlor and get tattoos by this amazing guy... It's on my left ankle. And it's a cherry blossom, which is obviously very specific to Tokyo. And, um, a little something private. In Katakana. Which is one of the Japanese alphabets.

It's insane what I see people doing, but they're not going to listen to me, so what am I going to do? I've said a couple of things to a couple of people, but they're not going to learn anything from me. They've got it made, making $12 million a movie, so they don't get it. They don't recognize it as a problem, because it helps them forget about their problems. And if anybody who works with them tries to tell them, usually those people get fired.

Say when I'm ready you must hold on steady we're moving off at lightening speed, yeah take a seat and wait 'till I'm ready. I'm coming so hold on steady, yeah.

I like being romantic. Everything I do with my girl and with my other girlfriends, I try to be romantic. I like romance a lot, I like passion a lot. I like writing to them about how I feel about them and how they make me feel. And I want to let them know how special they are. And I'm not always good at verbally communicating that, so I really enjoy writing it down and then kind of being that way because it's as honest as I can possibly be.

I wasn't allowed to listen to secular music when I was a kid, but there was a time when I was hanging out at my friend's house. We're trying on all our outfits, like girls do, and out of nowhere I heard the lyrics to 'Killer Queen.' Time stood still. The music was totally different from anything I'd heard. I still love Freddie Mercury. He was flamboyant with a twist of the operatic, but more importantly, he just didn't give a f---.

I want to thank Freddie Mac, Hibernia Bank, and Usher's New Look Foundation for their work to rebuild the lives of those who lost homes to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We are all partners in this rebuilding effort, ... I hope that their work will inspire others to join together in partnership to keep real the great American ideal of homeownership for those who lost their homes as well as those who have never had a home. Thank you for giving the heart a place to call home.

My high school was nothing like West Beverly High, let me tell you. I grew up in Fredericktown, Ohio. It was a small town. I didn't do that well in school, although I was voted "The Biggest Flirt." I played sports I was on the tennis team and also the baseball team. But the coolest thing I did was that I dressed up as our school mascot, Freddie Bird, for all of the football games. My step-father had a helicopter and I got the helicopter to drop me onto the football field. It was cool.

I love comedy and I would write things to myself as an exercise in writing. I didn't do well for years, and I quit. I started to break down why I was afraid and started to look at people I admired, like Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Freddie Prinze, George Carlin and all. I said, To get to where they are, they all have had to endure bad nights and it's not easy. If the worst thing that can happen is that nobody laughs, then I can deal with that, because the worst thing that can happen at the factory is that I could lose a limb or be crushed by a huge machine.
