True enough, many of us have been hurt, and are reluctant to trust someone to love us again. In the long run doing so will only get you a life full of loneliness, instead of a life full of happiness. Feelings of loneliness and unhappiness kick in after long periods of being by ourselves because as humans we instinctively are drawn towards being part of a collective instead of being by ourselves.
In order to avoid feelings of loneliness we must first learn to let go of our pasts, and try to embrace the fact that sometimes in life you will get hurt. All that you can do is make the best decisions possible about who and who not to let in your life, and treat others the way that you would like to be treated. Don't waste time building up walls, when you should be devoting your time to building bridges!
