Palm Sunday is the Sunday that falls before Easter. The Palm Sunday is an event which marks Jesus's triumphal entry to Jerusalem. As Jesus proceeded towards Jerusalem, a huge congregation of people followed him, carrying palms in their leaves. The crowd carrying those palm leaves resembled the branches of the palm tree. At times because of climatic conditions, it becomes hard to procure palm leaves and a shortage occurs. So, people prefer substituting palm leaves with leaves of other trees such as box, willow, yew an olive.
In certain places, Palm Sunday is hence celebrated as Yew Sunday or Branch Sunday. Entry into a city on a horse symbolized a peaceful entry in comparison to a king who entered the city on a horse which was symbolized a war-waging entry. In the accounts of all the four canonical gospels, Jesus entry to Jerusalem was exactly one week before his resurrection.
