Historically, a machine is any device which has moving parts. A device which requires some effort or energy to perform any kind of work is called a machine. It is a device which has parts that perform or assist in performing some kind of work. Machine is essentially a device which transforms the magnitude and direction of force. It has three main points one is the point of application of effort, the other is the point where the load acts and the third is the fulcrum. The word machine is derived from the Latin word, machine.
Richard Dooling had once remarked, “At times, we forget the magnitude of the havoc we can wreak by off-loading our minds onto super-intelligent machines, that is, until they run away from us, like mad sorcerers' apprentices, and drag us up to the precipice for a look down into the abyss.”
