Lesbianism is the female attribute of homosexuality. It is the concept according to which a female may experience intense sexual and romantic desire for another female. A woman who feels sexually attracted to other women in her vicinity is called a lesbian. Lesbianism is considered to be a taboo in the Asian countries while it is very much rampant in the west. Gene Robinson had once remarked, “I think my election is one of several indications that gay and lesbian folk are being brought more into the centre of things. I'd like to think that my election signals my bringing of gay and lesbian folk into the centre of the church.”
The society’s social attitude towards lesbianism and the political conditions in the region play a deciding role in determining the way in which lesbians are treated by the society. Tom Coburn had once said, “Lesbianism is so rampant in some of the schools in southeast Oklahoma that they'll only let one girl go to the bathroom. Now think about it. Think about that issue. How is it that that's happened to us?”
