Running can be defined as the act of moving or advancing swiftly. It is a means of locomotion that enables us to advance rapidly on foot. Technically speaking it is the ‘gait’ or style of moving in which at regular points both feet are off the ground. Running is of various types, slow can be referred to as ‘jogging’ and fast as ‘sprinting’. This mode of locomotion was developed by our ancestors in prehistoric times which gradually lead to competitive running that evolved from various running festivals of ancient times. Excessive running leads to physical injuries too because of its high impact nature. Some of them are runner’s knee, pulled muscles, twisted ankles etc. Steve Prefontaine rightly remarked,” You have to wonder at times what you're doing out there. Over the years, I've given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement.”
