Research can be defined as any kind of investigation or search to acquire knowledge and establish new facts, solve existing problems and develop new ideas. Research basically involves the use of scientific techniques. The basic purpose behind research work is discovery, interpretation and development. Research process may be scientific involving the use of scientific methods, while it may be artistic too. Historic research work involves the use of research work. Research and development requires great curiosity, sense of observation and proactive behaviour on the part of the person performing the research work. The word research may also be used to describe someone’s collection of information and in-depth knowledge on any particular subject or topic.
