Some of us are interested in directors, but really the vast majority of us are interested in actors. You experience the films through the actors, so they're all locked into your imagination in some kind of layer of fantasy or hatred or wherever they settle into your imagination.

I don't want to criticize any other designers, but I have to say that many of the people involved in this industry - directors and producers - are trying to make their games more like movies. They are longing to make movies rather than making video games.

Veronica Mars is definitely a major highlight in my career thus far. Other highlights have been meeting a few of my favorite directors. I got to meet Robert Benton recently and I have had the privilege of working with Robert Altman and Kenneth Lonergan. Really any time I get to act is a highlight in my book.

I work incredibly hard, and I would say the nature of being an actor involves a lot of studying. Every time you're playing a part you're preparing and you're researching and you're studying and you're working with various types of teachers and actors and directors...I think I was 15 or 16 when I made my first film, so my training in a way, sort of schooling, was on the set and doing the real thing.

I don't want to know movie directors. I don't want to be close to them. I don't want to interfere with their work. I don't want them to interfere with mine.

I think any actor should have a good knowledge about what everybody does on set, so that you're not somebody who just feels that because you're there it's happening. It's actually happening despite you being there with all this great work behind the camera. And I'm very much more appreciative of that as an actor now. Also I think I can be a help to directors in the sense that if they're under pressure I feel I'm somebody they can come to and say 'listen I'm going to have to put these three scenes together - we're not going to have time to just do one of them this afternoon, we'll have to do all three' and you're able to say ok - I understand you wouldn't have to make that decision if it wasn't being forced on you.

Nowadays they have 12 directors and 15 producers and 30 writers. And all the writers want their lines said a certain way-which isn't necessarily funny. I mean the lines aren't necessarily so funny to begin with.

To be honest with you, I dont really feel any different as a person. I dont live my life any differently. I mean, there might be people who want to come take a picture when Im having dinner, which is fine by me. I dont know any artist who doesnt want people to respond to their work on some level, but Im just grateful to be a working actor and to get to play roles that I like and get to work with great directors in the hiatus.

I dont know whether Ill ever get married. Ive seen too many supposedly happy marriages go down. Ive been as shocked as anyone. No one can look at the marriages of other people and make a judgement. I dont know the private lives o the actors I work with. I just know if they are good actors or good directors.

Whenever you hear that Kevin Spacey is producing a project and he is going to be very in touch and work closely with that project, it is kind of like it doesn't matter what it is, right after that you're very interested. I sat down with the writer-director and my first question was "Where did this come from?" You start having fun with directors, you have to feel like you can relate to them or at least be on the same level in terms of understanding the project and the material. You have to be sort of one with it; and he was. Then, I sat down with Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti, who produced it as well, who is fantastic.

I definitely feel like Ive learned a lot about comedy working on this show. Id never really done comedy before Community, so getting to work day in and day out with all these great people, directors, writers, and actors, I feel like Ive learned a lot. I dont know if I feel more confident, but it feels more familiar, and thats really nice.

I think comedy directors tend to feel a need to justify the bad behavior, and I just never think that. I like bad behavior, I've always liked bad behavior, I'm a fan of bad behavior, and I don't think you have to justify bad behavior.

Playing Arthur, I'm sorry to sound sappy, but it was a gift from the Gods. I've always been a working actor and I've always made my living in acting for a long time. I'd been auditioning for that show, I knew the casting directors pretty well. Arthur was the fifth character I auditioned for on the show. They kept bringing me in for parts and not finding anything for me. I actually wasn't supposed to audition for the part of Arthur, I was auditioning for one of the gay choir members from David's choir. Then I read about that part and went, 'Oh my God, that's perfect for me.' And I asked permission to read for it right then and there. I went in and auditioned without any preparation whatsoever and I think that probably helped me because I didn't overthink it. It was an amazing experience. Those shows are so well written and so well acted they're like little one-hour movies. So in a way I got to do like twelve or thirteen little one-hour movies as a very interesting and complex character. Everyone was really cool. Alan Ball, all the artists behind that show, were just so supportive and great and that really helped launch my career. I'm really grateful to the show for that.
