I think that being isolated from the Hollywood world of premieres and red carpet events was probably good for me because I could ease into those at will and by my own choice. But in other aspects, when it comes to fanfare Hawaii is nuts and in L.A. they're all so jaded. They don't care. They see another star and it's like, 'oh yeah, we've seen a hundred of them before. You're a dime a dozen'. Which is a little bit easier to deal with.

My friends on the mainland think just because I leave in Hawaii, I live in paradise, like a permanent vacation. We're all just out here, sipping Mai Tais, shaking our hips, catching waves. Are they insane? Do they think we are immune to life? How can they possibly think our famalies are less screwed up, our cancers less fatal, our heartache less painful? -Matt King

The people to whom your fathers told of the living God, and taught to call 'Father,' and whom the sons now seek to despoil and destroy, are crying aloud to Him in their time of trouble; and He will keep His promise, and will listen to the voices of His Hawaiian children lamenting for their homes.

I noticed that there are no B batteries. I think that's to avoid confusion, cause if there were you wouldn't know if someone was stuttering. 'Yes, hello I'd like some b-batteries.' 'What kind?' 'B-batteries.' 'What kind?' 'B-batteries!' and D-batteries that's hard for foreigners. 'Yes, I would like de batteries.'

I think $100 at the end of the year doesn't mean a lot to me, but $100 from everyone in the state at the end of the year could mean lots of programs that could be good for Hawaii.

A friend bought me a plane ticket to Hawaii, which is where I got discovered and became an actor, so I guess a friend bought me a winning lottery ticket.

I've been living in Hawaii for almost four years now, so it's not really paradise any more, man. Throwing snowballs on a mountain top is now paradise. We're moving to Oregon. I want to be closer to my brothers and their children. We really want our kids to have tight first-cousin relationships. I want to enjoy fishing, hiking, skiing, mountains and fresh air.

The world still consists of two clearly divided groups: the English and the foreigners. One group consists of less than 50 million people; the other of 3,950 million. The latter group does not really count.

The way you can go to Paris or Beijing and everywhere there's a McDonald's hamburger, this is the ecological quivalent of franchised life-forms. Every place is the same place. Kudzu. Zebra Mussels. Water Hyacinths. Starlings. Burger Kings. The local natives, anything unique gets squeezed out. The only biodiversity we're going to have left is Coke versus Pepsi. We're landscaping the whole world one stupid mistake at a time.

I've not lived anywhere for any permanent amount of time for about 12 years. I mean, I'm from Manchester. If someone ever says, where are you from, I say Manchester. I moved out of Manchester when I was 22 and went to New Zealand for nearly two and-a-half years; LA for two years and now I've been living in Hawaii for two years.

I most associate with the Hawaiian part. Thats where I was born. My family still live there. The best part of being Hawaiian is the food. I think its hard to find people who have Hawaiian in their blood. You dont hear of many people coming from Hawaii. But I find I represent my people.
