Reform means to improve or make something better, by making some appropriate modifications and addressing the flaws and faults in any system. Reform is a much needed process to ameliorate, restore and correct the existing state.
Reformation is any movement which aims at bringing about a change in the state of affairs in a state or a city. In contradiction to a revolution which is a radical change, reformation aims at addressing the flaws without altering the system fundamentals. Moreover, reformation aims at improving the system as it is and there is not any intention of overthrowing the system or eradicating it completely. On the other hand, revolution aims at doing away with faulty government or system and overthrowing it completely. In the words of Robert Bulwer Lytton, “A reform is a correction of abuses; a revolution is a transfer of power”.
