Growing up, I was into that '90s grunge movement like Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Nirvana. I've gone through every phase, I'll be into country music for a while, or rap music. Now I'm just a snob, I only listen to smooth jazz and that's about it.

I worked hard all my life as far as this music business. I dreamed of the day when I could go to New York and feel comfortable and they could come out here and be comfortable.

A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.

If you're ever shot dead in an East Coast-West Coast rap war, I hope it's after you've recorded over 10 years worth of unreleased music.

I do love music and I did actually have my own band once. It was a rap band. I was eight and we were called Caution. It was my two friends, they called me and said, Were in a band called Caution. And I was like, Can I be in it? So they made me audition! I had to sing down the phone even though we were a rap group. But they let me be in it. I really thought it was a big deal.

Poetry fettered, fetters the human race. Nations are destroyed or flourish in proportion as their poetry, painting, and music are destroyed or flourish.

Remember the difference between a boss and a leader; a boss says 'Go!' - a leader says 'Let's go!'

I had been trying to do something with music for all of my life. Ive always been a fan of music; I always loved music from the early 80s. I used to break-dance, DJ, all of that. So I always loved music. Its just that once I got myself established, you know, I started out in the streets doing the wrong thing first. But once I got my money together and myself established, instead of somebody thats trying to rap, like Bleu and them, getting out there trying to sell drugs or anything to make their careers flourish, I [thought I] could help them with what I have. And thats basically what it was between Bleu, Jeezy and everybody. I was trying to help them out. Jeezy was even rapping before he met me. But nobody was listening to the shit until he was around me, until we was listening to it and Im making/paying the djs play it. Thats basically how it is. I always wanted to be in the music business. A lot of my friends [have] always been in entertainment. If you hang out in Atlanta, everybody t

Gangsta rap often reaches higher than its ugliest, lowest common denominator, misogyny, violence, materialism and s..ual transgression are not its exclusive domain. At its best, this music draws attention to complex dimensions of ghetto life ignored by most Americans. Indeed, gangsta rap's in-your-face style may do more to force America to confront crucial social problems than a million sermons or political speeches.

Country music is the people's music. It just speaks about real life and about truth and it tells things how they really are.

Music begins to atrophy when it departs too far from the dance... poetry begins to atrophy when it gets too far from music.

Basically I just want people to know that theres no age range or bracket that you have to be in to be a yung boss. You can be in school and be a yung boss. Work hard and get the best out of it. If youre an athlete, go hard but at the same token, be a yung boss.

I'd always loved poetry and I'd always loved writing music and composing music, but I hadn't thought of putting the two together until around that time.

But, Eminem... No, I've loved rap for a long time, especially when it got out of its first period and became this gangsta rap, ya know this heavy rap thing? That's when I started to fall in love with it. I loved the lyrics. I loved the beat.

I have never seen a rap artist yet to come and say, 'I'm a gangsta'. What he says is 'Man I spit that gangsta rap cause gangsta rap makes a gang of snaps [money]'. It's business.

My goal is to live the truly religious life, and express it in my music. If you live it, when you play there's no problem because the music is part of the whole thing. To be a musician is really something. It goes very, very deep. My music is the spiritual expression of what I am, my faith, my knowledge, my being.
