I have to say my ultimate inspiration is Michael, but Janet was definitely one person I loved to watch growing up and I think she's such an amazing performer and she's contributed so many great things to the musical trend. Because of that I am inspired by her as an artist. When I get the comparison to Aaliyah, I can definitely say that I get touched more than anything when people tell them I remind them of her on a personal note because all I heard was people say a lot of great tings about her so I take it as a big compliment in that sense.

I am musical and I enjoy theatre, but I never wanted to just do theatre. I always wanted to go into film. I love film. I loved growing up in the theatre, but I always wanted to do film all along. But, I still pursue music separately.

Whatever happened to chivalry? Does it only exist in 80's movies? I want John Cusack holding a boombox outside my window. I wanna ride off on a lawnmower with Patrick Dempsey. I want Jake from Sixteen Candles waiting outside the church for me. I want Judd Nelson thrusting his fist into the air because he knows he got me. Just once I want my life to be like an 80's movie, preferably one with a really awesome musical number for no apparent reason. But no, no, John Hughes did not direct my life. -Olive Penderghast

I was working on Broadway in New York, and the Broadway strike happened, and my costar was working on a pilot with Ryan Murphy out here in Los Angeles. I met Ryan and we just had a great night talking about Barbara Streisand and our shared love for her and musical theater and what not, and I never saw him ever again. Glee was the first audition I went on in Los Angeles and Ryan was there, and I went, Do you remember me? and he was like, Of course I remember you. After going through the studio and the network, he then told me that he had written it with me in mind.

Music is a matter of taste. bi...ing at someone for liking a certain style of music is like yelling at someone for liking broccoli with melted cheese (which, might I add, is awesome). I dont understand why there are so many snobs out there who deem it necessary to force-feed their opinions to others, and claim that their experience in the matter makes their statement any more credible than the next, when, as I said before, its all a matter of taste. If you dig it, awesome. If you dont, awesome. Its just another plate being served at the worlds biggest (in this case musical) buffet. Dont make some kid feel guilty for listening to what he / she enjoys.

My issue is race. I feel black people nowadays have to conform to this one ideal. We all have to be the same. We all have to be hard and ghetto and listen to only one genre of music which would be Rap and R&B. And if one of us steps out of the mold we're not black anymore. Well, that's dumb. When did music determine your racial background? Or a musical instrument? I can't believe the dumb things people say when you're doing something different. I mean, it would be ok if music and how you dress and act actually determined your race, but the last time I checked it was your genes that determined your color. And I think anyone who chooses to believe in this fabrication is ignorant. Isn't this what the Civil Rights Movement was about, equality? Didn't Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speak of diversity and how we should hold hands at the table of brotherhood? Well how are you supposed to do this when we try to conform to this idea. Not conforming doesn't make you have less pride in your race but
