Whatever had been on the radio in the '60s; I mean we were always listening to the radio.

I've done things like signed a cereal box before. But the weirdest thing that's been done to meet me? Well some girls have got tattoos of my name done. One mum has a tattoo of a radio DJ on her back, which she had done in order to meet me. The radio station had a contest and if anyone got the guy from the radio station's face tattooed on their back, they could meet me, and that was the contest, and she did it. It was pretty weird!

We were number one most added at radio, when the single came out and that's much different. It took like eight months for any radio to happen on the first record, so a lot more support has happened right out of the box.

I had a hard time believing that a lot of these guys really did much of what they said they did because it was so hard for me. The feds, everywhere I look they was sending memos to radio stations, telling them not to play my stuff, our music, telling them that we drug-dealing murderers. From the radio stations to the clubs, from Atlanta to Miami, it was ridiculous. I didnt believe it until one particular radio station in Atlanta had let it be known that this had happened, they had got a memo. And actually it was the program director over at one of the radio stations. And thats when I said, Man, this shit is serious. They was really trying theyre best to block whatever it is we trying to do. Which all we been trying to do is be successful from the time that they tried to say that I did the double homicide in Buckhead. I put the billboards up because these people had put my face in the paper as being a murderer, when Im trying to run this company.

When radio stations started playing music the record companies started suing radio stations. They thought now that people could listen to music for free, who would want to buy a record in a record shop? But I think we all agree that radio stations are good stuff.

With the coming of radio as a mass medium, suddenly the world changed. It became about, 'Can this leader project emotional connection through the way he speaks on the radio?' And the anxiety about whether he could do that, we've inherited.

I learned the power of radio watching Eleanor Roosevelt do her show. I used to go up to Hyde Park and hold her papers. I was just a messenger, but it planted the bug of radio in me.

Yeah, but you need an experienced radio veteran who is a liberal advocate. And there just hadn't been any radio that did that. And so they weren't trained - they had developed all these bad habits of being objective and balanced and stuff like that.

Well over fifty years ago I was making radio loudspeakers and radio sets in Rochester, New York; pretty young and inexperienced; but we survived the depression.

I didn't get into acting to be a public service announcer or an advocate and yet, by virtue of this show and how we handle the subject matter that we've been given, that's kind of how it's evolved in certain ways.

We saw very little of the real Jack Buck behind the microphone. He would touch people in ways that we will never know. Jack was much more than just an announcer.

I am amazed at radio DJ's today. I am firmly convinced that AM on my radio stands for Absolute Moron. I will not begin to tell you what FM stands for.

As far as the radio waves part of the spectrum, we can do these adequately from the ground because the atmosphere is basically transparent to our radio waves.

The thing that interests me least about the radio business is the radio business. But I've had to learn a little bit about it. It's not rocket science: You get ratings, that's good.

As you know, in the past several years, month after month, radio has increased its revenues - some of it even coming from Dot-Com advertisers. So, radio is a survivor.

Country radio certainly widens the boundaries of what I can do. Other artists may do something more edgy that gets on radio and that opens the door for me to be more edgy, I think.

I just don't fit in. It seems like everyone else is sitting on the FM radio, knowing exactly what they want. Meanwhile, I'm the lost one, searching on the AM radio for something that'll never be found.

Radio is not a partner in the industry. I think that the music industry has continued to depend upon radio, but has ended up pandering to a medium that doesn't care.

But in 1941, on December 8th, after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, my mother bought a radio and we listened to the war news. We'd not had a radio up to that time. I was born in 1934, so I was seven years of age.
